Does Gal Gadot Feature in the Live Action Adaptation of Barbie?

Gal Gadot was originally pegged to star in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Barbie before Margot Robbie ultimately accepted the role. In a recent interview with Vogue, Robbie revealed that she and director Greta Gerwig had been searching for someone who could capture the iconic character’s “Barbie energy”, and thought Gadot would be the perfect fit.

Robbie said of Gadot: “Gal Gadot is Barbie energy. Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork”. Unfortunately, Gadot was unable to commit to the role at the time, leading to Robbie taking on the lead instead.

The movie was initially set to star Amy Schumer back in 2016, but she had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Now that it’s been released, the trailers have caused a stir amongst fans, with Ryan Gosling as her love interest Ken. The actor revealed that Robbie went above and beyond to ensure he stayed in character, leaving “presents with a pink bow, from Barbie to Ken” for him every day on set.

Recently, the released individual character posters have been circulating around social media – with fans photoshopping their own faces onto them! Alongside Robbie and Gosling are Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa as different versions of Ken, while Hari Nef, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Anna Cruz Kayne, Sharon Rooney, Kate McKinnon, Nicola Coughlan, Alexandra Shipp Ritu Arya and Issa Rae will all be playing versions of Barbie.

The much-anticipated film will be released worldwide in theatres on July 21 – so get ready to follow Barbie’s adventures!
