Rapper Doechii has responded to the viral moment of her demanding multiple umbrellas to shield her outfit before walking the Met Gala red carpet on Monday.
In a TikTok video uploaded on Wednesday, the 26-year-old downplayed the incident with a lighthearted tone.
The selfie-style video featured the text, “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas,” overlaid on the screen.
The slow-motion footage showed Doechii raising her hands in what appeared to be a peace gesture. In the caption, she wrote, “All jokes aside this was such an overstimulating night but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! This was the night we all dreamed of and my team killed it (umbrellas aside).” The clip was set to The Commodores’ song “Easy.”
The “Anxiety” singer’s initial reaction, captured on video, showed her becoming visibly upset by the presence of photographers as she exited an elevator at The Mark Hotel, where she was preparing for the event.
She retreated back into the elevator and could be heard urgently requesting multiple umbrellas to conceal herself behind a white wardrobe screen held by her team. Her demands for “four f–king umbrellas” were also audible.
While some online commenters defended Doechii, suggesting her reaction was due to the stress of her first Met Gala appearance or that her team was unprepared, others criticized her behavior as rude and unnecessary.
One critic commented that “we should all learn how to better express ourselves when under pressure,” while another suggested she could have asked more politely. Some even felt her eventual outfit reveal did not justify the commotion.
Once she arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Doechii revealed her Pharrell and Louis Vuitton-designed coat and trouser short set, aligning with the Met Gala’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme.
