Danish High School Students To Use AI in English Exams

High school students in Denmark will soon have a new tool to help them prepare for their English exams – artificial intelligence. The educational ministry announced that starting in 2026, students will be able to use AI during the oral portion of the English exam. This experimental program aims to strike a balance between digital learning and traditional teaching methods.

When students receive their exam topic, they will have one hour to prepare using any resources available, including generative AI. The students will then present their answers in person to an examiner. While the oral portion will incorporate AI, the written part of the exam will still require handwritten responses to prevent cheating and encourage the development of students’ language skills.

This move towards integrating AI into exams comes as educators worldwide consider the role of technology in preparing students for the digital economy. Denmark has already allowed internet use during exams since 2008, but this new AI experiment is optional for high schools.
