Chrissy Teigen Opens up About Her Struggles With Alcohol and Dealing With the Loss of Her Son

Chrissy Teigen has recently opened up about her struggles with losing her baby. Teigen and her husband, John Legend, lost their baby, Jack in September last year and she has come out to publicly express how the trauma has affected her.

Teigen announced after weeks of battling complications and excessive bleeding that eventually led to her getting hospitalized. In an Instagram post, she said “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” releasing sensitive and emotional photos of her and John during the period.

“Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever. To our Jack — I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications. That we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you,” she added.

However, a few months later, she took to her social media to celebrate her one month of sobriety from alcohol. Teigen explained that she used to be a very wild alcoholic but decided to quit after growing tired of being too embarrassed after she gets drunk.

She narrates the events that led her to make the informed decision saying,

“One month ago, on my birthday, I got this book from my doctor and friend. I was done with making an ass of myself in front of people (I’m still embarrassed), tired of day drinking and feeling like shit at 6, not being able to sleep.”

Although Teigen loves how much clearer and better things have become since she gave up alcohol, she finds it hard to deal with the loss of her son, especially without alcohol numbing her pain.

In a series of Instagram posts, she reminisces on life in New York in 2013/2014 and how she was a functioning alcoholic, always drunk but still managing to show up at her engagements. “I’d sit there with my multiple double vodka sodas and get drunk by myself (this is not a brag lol I was a functioning alcoholic) then buy hats I didn’t like or need at urban outfitters,” she said.

Teigen, who is an accomplished author, explained how she slowly slipped from writing and thinking about her book to remembering her late son, saying “It kind of started when I was thinking of my book caption and typed out ‘my third baby is here!!’, as in a cookbook, then realized my third baby will never be here. then I realized I threw myself into the book to not think of the real, actual third baby.”

Teigen has had quite the year already. From the backlash she received from fans to accusations of social media bullying, to dealing with the trauma of losing her baby, and managing her two kids, it must have been extremely difficult for Teigen to cope.

Teigen has apologized to the victims of her social media trolling and bullying and has promised to turn a new leaf online.
