Chappell Roan Returns To Stage After Canceling Festival Gigs Over Mental Health Struggles

Chappell Roan has returned to the stage just days after canceling her All Things Go Music Festival appearance due to mental health concerns.

The “Good Luck, Babe!” singer, 26, performed for 80 minutes during her Midwest Princess Tour stop in Franklin, Tenn.

While she didn’t mention her recent cancellations, she connected with the audience, saying, “I know how hard it is to be queer in the Midwest and South. And I understand.”

“I’m really grateful to be here and show up — to clock into my job. I just have to remind myself that this is why I do it. … I can see you and feel you […].”

This concert took place just a few days after she canceled her performances at the All Things Go Music Festival in New York and Washington, DC.

“I apologize to people who have been waiting to see me in NYC & DC this weekend at All Things Go, but I am unable to perform,” Roan shared in an Instagram story on Sept. 27. “Things have gotten overwhelming over the past few weeks and I am really feeling it.”

Roan expressed that she felt the need to “prioritize a lot of things right now” and required a few days to focus on her health.

“I want to be present when I perform and give the best shows possible,” she continued. “Thank you for understanding. Be back soon.”

Just last month, Roan shared that she was diagnosed with severe depression as she navigates her rising fame.

“I went to a psychiatrist last week because I was like, I don’t know what’s going on. She diagnosed me with severe depression – which I didn’t think I had because I’m not actually sad,” the “Pink Pony Club” artist told the Guardian in an interview published Sept. 20.

“But I have every symptom of someone who’s severely depressed,” she shared, explaining that she experiences brain fog, poor focus, forgetfulness and “a very lackluster viewpoint.”

Roan has struggled to maintain boundaries with her fans, previously calling out those who disrespect her privacy and rudely ask for photos.

“I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous, whatever. I don’t care that it’s normal,” she stated in a TikTok video at the time.

She also confronted a photographer on the red carpet at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, telling the shutterbug to “shut the f–k up.”
