Bill Belichick appeared on CBS Mornings to talk about his new book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football, but the conversation took an uncomfortable turn when questions about his personal life came up.
When Belichick, 73, was asked how he met his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, she quickly shut down the question from off-camera, saying, “We’re not talking about this.”
According to Pro Football Talk, Hudson interrupted the interview multiple times, which is why CBS left in the off-camera moments.
The large age gap between Belichick and Hudson has drawn plenty of attention and criticism in the past year. Since Belichick’s move to coach at the University of North Carolina, Hudson has taken on a bigger public role, often appearing to help manage his image.
Belichick brushed off the public scrutiny, saying, “Never been too worried about what everybody else thinks. Just try to do what I feel is best for me and what’s right.”
The interview itself was described as awkward, with Belichick wearing a worn-out Navy sweatshirt featuring a large hole near the collar.
Besides the tension over his relationship, the interview also highlighted that Belichick made no mention of Patriots owner Robert Kraft or his departure from New England, something many fans and analysts had expected.
Throughout the segment, CBS interviewer Tony Dokoupil noted Hudson’s strong presence during the taping and managed to ask Belichick how he deals with criticism about his personal life.
