Beyoncé finally won her Grammy for Album of the Year.
After four previous losses in this prestigious category, the music superstar triumphed at the 2025 ceremony, becoming the first Black woman to receive the award since Lauryn Hill in 1999.
Her country record, “Cowboy Carter,” beat out strong competitors like Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department,” Charli XCX’s “Brat,” Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet,” André 3000’s “New Blue Sun,” and Jacob Collier’s “Djesse Vol. 4.”
Onstage, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “I just feel very full and very honored. It’s been many, many years, and I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer,” alongside her 13-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, while Eilish and Lady Gaga shed tears of joy in the audience.
Although the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer, 43, holds the record for the most Grammy wins with 35, this is her first win for Album of the Year.
Beyoncé was previously nominated for “I Am… Sasha Fierce” in 2008, “Beyoncé” in 2013, “Lemonade” in 2016, and “Renaissance” in 2022, but lost to Taylor Swift, Beck, Adele, and Harry Styles, respectively.
During the 2024 show, Jay-Z openly criticized the Recording Academy for never awarding his wife in this category.
This year, Beyoncé led the nominations with 11, making “Cowboy Carter” the third-most recognized album in Grammy history, following Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” (13) and Quincy Jones’.
