In a powerful show of support, Beyoncé has given Vice President Kamala Harris the green light to use her iconic song “Freedom” in her presidential campaign.
According to CNN, Harris’ team secured last-minute approval from Beyoncé’s representatives to feature the empowering anthem at her Delaware campaign headquarters.
A source close to Harris told CNN that “Beyoncé, who is known for maintaining strict clearance guidelines around her music, gave quick approval to Harris’ campaign when they sought permission to use “Freedom” on Monday — just hours before she walked out to the song.
“Freedom,” a standout track from Beyoncé’s Lemonade album, boasts a powerful message of Black women’s liberation, with lyrics that declare, “I break chains all by myself… I’ma keep running, ’cause a winner don’t quit on themselves.”
The song, featuring Kendrick Lamar, is a fitting choice for Harris, who is currently leading the pack of Democratic nominees for the 2024 presidential election.
Beyoncé’s music video for “Freedom” featured a powerful statement against police brutality, with the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and Eric Garner making a poignant appearance.
Now, it seems Beyoncé is showing her support for Vice President Kamala Harris in a more personal way.
The singer gifted Harris tickets to her Renaissance World Tour concert in Landover, Maryland, which Harris called a “fun date night” on social media.
While Beyoncé hasn’t officially endorsed Harris, her mother Tina Knowles is a vocal fan.
Tina shared a photo with Harris, praising her “new, youthful, sharp energy” and calling her a “great leader.” Tina also thanked President Biden for his service and leadership, making it clear where her political allegiances lie.
Beyoncé has a history of supporting Democratic candidates, including Hillary Clinton in 2016 and the Biden-Harris campaign in 2020. She’s also a friend of the Obama family, having performed at both of Barack Obama’s inaugurations.
While we wait to see if Beyoncé will officially endorse Harris, it’s clear that the “Brown Skin Girl” singer is a fan of the Vice President’s work.
