American Federation of Musicians Endorses Kamala Harris For President

The American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada has thrown its support behind Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

The endorsement follows a unanimous vote by the U.S. members of the AFM International Board, recognizing the Biden-Harris administration’s dedication to labor.

This development comes after President Biden’s decision not to seek reelection and his subsequent backing of Harris.

The New York-based union represents professional instrumental musicians across various sectors, including orchestras, bands, clubs, theaters, and the entertainment industry.

In a statement, the AFP President Tino Gagliardi said, “The Federation joins with all Americans who want to see a nation that is united, that promotes inclusion and a vision for the future, and that honors and respects all of its citizens. The AFM proudly endorses Kamala Harris for president of the United States.

“For musicians concerned about protecting their rights against exploitation both intellectually and at work, ensuring the security of our pay, benefits, and retirement, Harris is the clear choice”.

IATSE, which represents over 170,000 technicians and craftspersons in Hollywood, also endorsed Harris, along with The AFL-CIO, a federation of 60 unions, including the Department of Professional Employees.

This department includes Actors Equity, SAG-AFTRA, the Writers Guild of America East, AFM, IATSE, and others in its coalition.

While some entertainment unions have endorsed Harris, others are yet to make their endorsements public.
