Now more than ever, Nigerian women are making deep strides in areas of sports. For the first time, Nigeria would have its first ever female canoeist at the Olympics.

At such a young age, Ayomide Bello has beaten other African contenders at the C1 200 event at Africa’s Tokyo 2020 qualifiers in Morocco to claim the spot.
Earlier this year, in March, she claimed the top trophy at the Open International Canoe Sprint Competition in India, becoming the first Nigerian to win gold at an international sporting event.
She also competed at the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina in 2018.

Ayomide Bello is not the only Nigerian athlete so far to compete in canoeing at the Olympics as, Jonathan Akinyemi had previously represented the country at the London Games in 2012 and Rio in 2015.

We wish her success as she takes on this historic journey.
