Aubrey Plaza Honors Late Husband Jeff Baena During ‘SNL 50’ Anniversary Special

Aubrey Plaza honored the memory of her late husband, Jeff Baena, during her appearance on Sunday’s Saturday Night Live 50: The Anniversary Special.

While presenting musical guests Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard on the star-studded episode, the White Lotus alum wore a black pantsuit paired with a tie-dye shirt.

The tie-dye design was a heartfelt tribute to Baena, as the two had married in matching tie-dye pajamas.

In a December 2021 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Plaza shared the story of her impromptu wedding to Baena, whom she had been with for over a decade.

When Drew Barrymore asked how she “dressed up” for their nuptials, Plaza revealed she wore a rosemary crown and tie-dye pajamas.

“Jeff got really into tie-dyeing during the quarantine,” she explained, referring to the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. “I decided that Jeff and I were going to wear tie-dye pajamas that he had made for us.”

She also fondly spoke about collaborating with Baena on films like Spin Me Around, The Little Hours, and Life After Beth.

Plaza’s appearance on Sunday marked the first time she had been seen publicly since Baena’s tragic death by suicide on January 3 at the age of 47. The director was found unresponsive at their Los Angeles-area home by an assistant.

A few days after his passing, Plaza addressed the loss in a public statement.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support,” she said, in a joint statement with Baena’s family. “Please respect our privacy during this time.”

Following his death, Plaza deactivated her Instagram account, which had recently featured a post about her husband.

In 2020, the couple secretly married after being together for more than a decade, though they did not have children.
