As Katherine LaNasa entered the set of Seinfeld for her guest role, she brought a refreshing energy, unaware of the iconic sitcom she was stepping into. In the Season 6 episode “The Beard,” she played an NYPD sergeant who charmingly flirted with Jerry Seinfeld before subjecting him to a lie detector test for claiming he had never seen Melrose Place. In a recent interview with ETalk, LaNasa confessed, “I had never seen Seinfeld, nor had I seen Melrose Place, which is hilarious. Yes, I was living under a rock.”
Despite her lack of TV-watching history, LaNasa’s talent shone through as she navigated the world of acting while balancing motherhood and the demands of the entertainment industry. “I was a single mom, my son’s dad was an older guy, and we didn’t watch Melrose Place,” she shared, referencing her late ex-husband Dennis Hopper. “I just didn’t watch a lot of TV. I know it sounds crazy, I was just starting out in television.”
Now married to Melrose Place star Grant Show, LaNasa has found success in her own right, appearing in ER, 3rd Rock From the Sun, Touched by an Angel, Grey’s Anatomy, and ultimately landing the starring role as Nurse Dana on The Pitt. Reflecting on her experience on Seinfeld, she remarked, “It was just a big bucket full of talent and I was pinching myself. I couldn’t believe I was a part of it or witnessing it.”
LaNasa’s journey in the entertainment industry has been one of growth and adaptation, all while staying true to herself and her craft. As she continues to make her mark on television, her undeniable talent and dedication are sure to captivate audiences for years to come.
