Leighton Meester Speaks Out About ‘Gossip Girl’ Co-Star Michelle Trachtenberg’s Death

Leighton Meester, known for her role as Blair Waldorf in the hit series Gossip Girl, has spoken out about the recent passing of her former co-star and close friend, Michelle Trachtenberg.

Trachtenberg, who famously played the character Georgina Sparks on the show and Dawn Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, died earlier this year at the age of 39.

In an emotional interview with Flaunt magazine, Meester, also 39, reflected on their shared history and the lasting bonds formed during the making of the iconic teen drama. “It’s devastating,” Meester said. “She was an incredible, talented woman, and everybody adored her. It’s very, very sad for everybody who knew her.”

Meester noted that the news was particularly poignant because of their shared age. “It really makes you stop and think,” she added.

Michelle Trachtenberg was found dead in a New York City apartment on February 26th. The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed that her death was due to complications from diabetes mellitus and ruled it as natural.

Meester also acknowledged the enduring legacy of Gossip Girl, stating that its impact seems to be even stronger now than when it originally aired from 2007 to 2012.

She highlighted the strong connection among the cast that has persisted beyond the show’s conclusion.

Following the confirmation of Trachtenberg’s death, several of her former co-stars shared their condolences.

Penn Badgley, who played Dan Humphrey, remembered her “incredibly quick” laugh and “joyous” nature, describing her as having a “really pure heart.”

While admitting he hadn’t seen her in over a decade, his fond memories underscored the impact she had on those around her.

Michelle Trachtenberg’s sudden death has deeply affected the Gossip Girl community and her fans worldwide.

While her work continues to be celebrated, those who knew her, like Leighton Meester, are remembering her talent, light, and the profound loss they feel.
