20 Best Habits to Start Today

Are you one of those people who constantly say “tomorrow” when it comes to doing things that you know would make your life better?

I understand how tough it can be. We all face challenges and distractions that keep us from working on improving ourselves and reaching our goals, but we must realize that tomorrow is not guaranteed and, more importantly, there is no perfect time to start.

The following are what I believe to be the 20 best habits one must develop in order to live a successful and fulfilling life.

1) Meditate for at least 10 minutes per day

Meditation has many benefits including increased focus, lower stress levels, improved memory function and can even help you lose weight. It’s also one of the best ways to calm your mind and become more mindful throughout the day.

2) Drink a full glass of water as soon as you wake up

Not only is this great for fat loss, but it also gives you energy and helps keep your metabolism running smoothly.

3) Read for at least 15 minutes per day

Books are one of the most powerful tools you can use to shape your life and success is no exception. Books will give you new perspectives, open your mind to new possibilities and even make you laugh every once in a while.

4) Eat breakfast within an hour after waking up

It’s important to get your metabolism started as soon as possible after you wake up, which is why eating breakfast within an hour of waking is important. Also, by starting your day with a healthy meal you will be less likely to binge on junk food later in the day.

5) Make the first move when it comes to communication

It’s always better to err on the side of being too forward than not putting yourself out there enough. This includes meeting new people, starting conversations with strangers and asking for what you want.

6) Listen to audiobooks when commuting or spending time doing chores

Audiobooks can be a great way to learn new things and broaden your horizons. While listening to audiobooks may not be a physical activity that works towards your fitness goals, it does help in other ways. For example, you could listen to a book on public speaking if you’re afraid of presenting at work or an educational course when going to the gym could lead to improved results.

7) Eat a well-balanced lunch every day

Eating a healthy lunch will help keep you energized and productive throughout the day. Eating something unhealthy like fast food for lunch can make you tired and irritable and even affect your ability to fall asleep at night.

8) Spend time with people who inspire and motivate you

It’s important to surround yourself with positive people who believe in your success as much as you do. These are the people who will be there to lift you up when you’re feeling down and cheer for your accomplishments.

9) Read at least one chapter from a self-development book per day

It’s important to keep growing and improving yourself every day. Reading a chapter from a self-improvement book or other educational course each day will help you become more knowledgeable and well rounded.

10) Stop procrastinating on tasks that don’t require much thought

Instead of spending 15 minutes organizing your closet for the third time this week, do something more meaningful like working on a project or learning something new. You’ll be happier with the results, trust me.

11) Take time to reflect after work and plan for the next day

It’s important to take some time every evening to unwind and reflect on your progress towards your goals. Once you’ve reflected it will be much easier to start fresh the next day with a clear mind.

12) Spend time doing something you enjoy every day

By making time every day to do something that you enjoy, you keep your mind and body healthy. Even if it’s just for an hour a day, finding some time to do things you love will improve your life more than you know.

13) Drink a glass of water before eating lunch

Studies show that drinking a glass of water before eating lunch can make you feel more full and eat less. Plus it’s good for your health, especially if you drink it with lemon or cucumbers

14) Make a plan for the next day by writing down 3 things you want to accomplish

Before bed write down three things that you want to accomplish the next day. Having a clear list of goals for the next day will help you bust through procrastination and have more energy to tackle them head-on.

15) Keep an inspiration file on your phone filled with photos, quotes and videos

If you find yourself struggling with motivation, it’s a good idea to keep an inspiration file on your phone so you can look at it as a reminder of why you’re working towards your goals and who you’re doing it for.

16) Take at least one photo per day to document your life

Having a visual reminder of where you were and what you’ve done can motivate you to keep moving forward. Taking one photo per day will also help build your creative skills if you’re into photography or design.

17) Practice active listening skills when talking with others

Active listening is about more than just nodding along; it’s about paying attention to the words people are using and asking questions to make sure you understand their message. Good active listening skills will help improve your relationships and business ventures.

18) Stand up every 20 minutes during the workday

Standing up while working will help you feel more energized and focused. It also gives your body a break from sitting down all day.

19) Read news articles that can improve your life or career every morning

Before bed, spend 10 minutes reading an article about something that could help you with either your personal life or career. Having knowledge in multiple areas can help you live a more fulfilling life.

20) Exercise for 30 minutes every day

Exercising for just 30 minutes a day can improve your mood, increase your energy levels and decrease stress.

We should all adopt these good habits because they will make us happier, healthier and even wealthier. I’m sure we will all have a better tomorrow if we follow them.
