XO, Kitty: A K-drama Rom-Com Adventure

My recent foray into the world of K-dramas and K-rom-coms has been nothing short of thrilling. As someone who had grown a bit tired of the same old formulaic TV-movie rom-coms, I was on the hunt for something fresh. Despite being Chinese and having an easier time understanding Mandarin-based content, I decided to dive into a Korean rom-com and was instantly hooked.

Netflix has proved to be a treasure trove of K-dramas, C-dramas, and even T-dramas (Taiwanese, for those wondering), all complete with subtitles and most offering English dubbed voiceovers for those who prefer them. If you’re looking to dip your toes into foreign-language series on Netflix, I highly recommend starting with a show like “XO, Kitty.” This spinoff of the popular “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” movies has been a hit for Netflix, and it’s easy to see why. While the English-language series includes some Korean-language scenes, they are brief and always accompanied by subtitles.

“XO, Kitty” follows the journey of Kitty Song-Covey (played by Anna Cathcart) as she embarks on a study abroad program at the Korean Independent School of Seoul. Initially there to surprise her pen-pal boyfriend, Dae (portrayed by Choi Min-yeong), Kitty finds herself in unexpected circumstances after discovering he is involved with another woman. Despite the twist of events, Kitty decides to stay on in Seoul, immersing herself in a new culture and forming lasting friendships.

In the upcoming third season of “XO, Kitty,” Kitty Song Covey returns for her final year at KISS with a clear plan for her senior year. However, unexpected revelations throw her carefully laid-out plans off course, forcing her to navigate new challenges and embrace the unknown. The season is set to premiere on Thursday, April 2 on Netflix.

“XO, Kitty” is a spinoff of the “To All the Boys” movies on Netflix, offering viewers a fresh perspective on the beloved characters and their experiences. Based on the YA novel of the same name by Jenny Han, the series explores themes of love, friendship, and self-discovery in a relatable and engaging way.

As for the cast of “XO, Kitty,” it features talented actors like Anna Cathcart, Gia Kim, Sang Heon Lee, and Choi Min-yeong, each bringing their unique touch to the story. Notably, Lee and Gia Kim share a special bond as siblings both on and off-screen.

Before you dive into the latest season of “XO, Kitty,” be sure to catch up on the previous episodes to fully immerse yourself in Kitty’s world as she navigates life, love, and everything in between.
