A young woman in Wisconsin, Zuyelmar Barrios Alvarez, faced serious charges after allegedly hitting two children in a hit-and-run incident. The incident occurred as the children were riding a minibike and were struck by a car driven by Barrios Alvarez. She initially left the scene but returned shortly after.
The children, an 11-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, were hospitalized following the incident. The boy sustained critical injuries, including a serious head injury, broken legs, and a severed fingertip, while the girl suffered minor injuries.
Barrios Alvarez claimed she did not see the minibike as she approached the intersection and tried to avoid it but couldn’t. Witnesses provided video footage showing her driving away from the scene before returning, where neighbors assisted the injured children.
While cooperating with authorities, it was revealed that Barrios Alvarez was driving with an invalid license since her residence was in Wisconsin but her license was from Illinois. She was charged with hit and run involving great bodily harm and operating a vehicle without a valid license.
Barrios Alvarez appeared in court where her bail was set at $50,000. Prosecutors argued for cash bail due to the severity of the crime. She remains in custody awaiting her next court date.
