A powerful windstorm swept through a prison in Lincoln, Nebraska, causing extensive damage to the facility’s roof. The incident, captured on security footage, showed the roofs of two housing units being ripped off by strong gusts of wind. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the 387 individuals residing in the damaged units were safely relocated.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services acted swiftly to ensure the safety of everyone involved, with Director Rob Jeffreys praising the teamwork and dedication of the staff during the emergency. Despite facing damage to their own homes, staff members worked together to keep the population and Nebraska safe.
In response to the roof damage, 250 prisoners were moved to the gym and other available facilities, while the remaining 137 were transferred to other prisons in the area. As severe storms continued to hit Nebraska, the National Weather Service issued warnings of hail and strong winds, with further thunderstorms and flooding predicted for the weekend.
