American singer SZA has officially ended her partnership with her manager, TDE’s Punch.
The R&B star shared this news in a recent social media post, stating that there’s nothing to celebrate regarding the conclusion of their collaboration.
While she did not reveal the reasons behind the termination, she expressed her well wishes for Punch’s future endeavors.
SZA wrote, “Nothing to celebrate. The end of an era. I wish him the best whatever his choices may be.”
Punch As SZA’s Manager
Having first met SZA in 2011 while she was working at a merchandise booth during Lamar’s CMJ showcase in New York, Punch recognized her talent early on.
Since signing her two years later, he has often faced fan frustrations regarding delays in her music releases.
On social media, SZA has even directed fans to “ask Punch” about the reasons for the delays, highlighting the challenges Henderson has encountered while supporting her career.
However, as SZA’s manager, along with her day-to-day handler MeLisa Chanele, Henderson played a crucial role in shaping her 23-track album SOS.
This record broke long-standing milestones set by iconic artists like Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin, ultimately becoming the longest-charting No. 1 album on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart.
Henderson was heavily involved from the early production stages, brainstorming ideas and concepts during initial studio sessions before allowing SZA to work independently with her engineer.
When SOS was previewed at industry listening sessions, SZA chose not to attend, letting Henderson represent the project and share audience feedback with her.
Following Kendrick Lamar’s exit from TDE in May 2022, SZA became a focal point for Henderson and the label.
