Why Did Ons Jabeur Retire at the National Bank Open?

In Toronto, Canada, the National Bank Open is currently underway. World no.5 Ons Jabeur was entering the tournament following a three-set loss to Veronika Kudermetova at the Silicon Valley Classic last week.

Despite being the heavy favourite in the final, the Tunisian star was runner-up at Wimbledon this year.

Ons played world no.51 Qinwen Zhen in the National Bank Open’s Round of 32. Ons Jabeur retired at the beginning of the second set, and Qinwen Zheng advanced to the last 16 of the National Bank Open. Fans, however, were curious about what happened to Ons Jabeur as she quit during the second set.

Why Did Ons Jabeur Retire at the National Bank Open?

Ons Jabeur was forced to retire due to abdominal discomfort according to the WTA. Many people believed that the intense heat and humidity had something to do with it.

Naomi Osaka had to call it a day due to a back problem, while Paula Badosa was forced out of her match after suffering from muscular cramping early in the afternoon.

Ons is aiming to become the first Arab to qualify for the year-end finals, but having lost two matches in a row, her chances are slim.
