Love Island 2024 winners Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan have faced breakup rumors ever since they exited the villa.
As the crowned champions, they felt the weight of expectations to be the ultimate ‘couple goals.’
However, just two months after being named king and queen of the villa, they decided to part ways.
Mimii took to social media to announce the split, expressing her “disappointment” in revealing that their relationship hadn’t worked out.
They now join other couples like Joey Essex and Jessy Potts, Matilda Draper and Sean Stone, and Harriett Blackmore and Ronnie Vint, who have also ended their relationships since leaving the show.
But why have Mimii and Josh actually ended things? Here’s what we know.
Why did Love Island’s Mimii and Josh split?
Two months after their victory on Love Island 2024, Mimii took to her Instagram story on September 30th to announce her breakup with Josh.
She expressed, “Hi everyone, I know many of you have been curious about Josh and me and our absence from the spotlight.
“The reality is we’ve been trying to sort things out since leaving the villa, but sadly, it looks like things aren’t going to work out for us right now.
“I understand this is a huge disappointment for many of you, just as it is for me. Your support has meant the world to us, and I will always be thankful for it; you are the reason we got this far. God bless you all.”
What have Josh and Mimii said about their break up?
Love Island winners Josh and Mimii’s breakup was confirmed in September through a statement on Mimii’s Instagram story.
Josh stayed silent about the split for a bit but finally spoke up at the Pride Of Britain Awards.
He told the tabloids, “Mimii is just as busy as I am. I’m sure she’s doing well whatever she is doing. I wish her the best and I hope she continues to thrive.”
He added that while he’s embracing his single life, he’s currently focused on his career. “Right now I’m single and as single as can be… with my seven cats! Nah… Right now I’m focusing on what I’m doing – my career, making waves and working really hard.”
Josh also mentioned he’s open to love, saying, “If love comes, then I’ll welcome it with open arms.”
After their Love Island journey, the former couple had an exclusive interview with OK!, where they celebrated being the first Black couple to win the show.
Mimii remarked, “We didn’t realize how much of the point that we’re making. I keep seeing tweets about me and Josh saying this ‘is a win for all of us,’ and that’s so real. I feel like everyone has just been uplifted, and everyone feels like this could be a start of more change, especially in the TV scene, for recognition of Black history and the importance of Black culture being represented.”
