A new autopsy report revealed that a 23-year-old U.S. Army soldier found dead in her off-base residence in Tennessee was stabbed nearly 70 times, according to various news sources.
The Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office stated that Katia Dueñas Aguilar sustained 68 stab wounds, determining her passing as a homicide, according to the autopsy report obtained by news outlets.
Police in Clarksville, Tenn., discovered Dueñas Aguilar deceased inside her off-base home on May 18.
Dueñas Aguilar, originally from Mesquite, Texas, was a soldier stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky near the Tennessee border.
The 101st Airborne Division confirmed Dueñas Aguilar’s passing in a statement shared on Facebook on May 30, extending condolences to her family.
The statement reads, “condolences as Pfc. Katia Dueñas Aguilar is laid to rest in her hometown of Mesquite, Texas tomorrow.
“The 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, where she served as an Information Technology Specialist, will honor her at the funeral”.
Police have not made any arrests in the case as of July 10, as reported by CBS News.
Dueñas Aguilar’s family continues to seek answers after her tragic death, with her mother sharing that she had planned to return home to Texas in May after serving in the U.S. Army for six years.
According to the 101st Airborne Division’s statement, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and Dueñas Aguilar’s family has offered a $55,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
