Who are Billie Eilish’s ‘Wildflower’ Lyrics About? Fans Think the Lyrics are About Devon Lee Carlson and Jesse Rutherford

Billie Eilish fans believe her song ‘Wildflower’ is about Devon Lee Carlson and the guilt she feels for dating Jesse Rutherford.

Those familiar with Billie’s history know she was in a relationship with The Neighbourhood star Jesse from October 2022 to May 2023.

Prior to their romance, Billie was friends with Jesse’s ex, influencer Devon Lee Carlson, and they remain close.

In fact, they were spotted holding hands at Kendall Jenner’s Halloween party last year.

With the release of her new song ‘Wildflower,’ fans have noticed several clues suggesting it may be about Devon.

Are Billie Eilish’s ‘Wildlflower’ lyrics about Devon Lee Carlson and Jesse Rutherford?

In ‘Wildflower,’ Billie sings about the complexities of dating a friend’s ex and the conflicting emotions that arise after providing comfort during their breakup.

She expresses: “She was cryin’ on my shoulder / All I could do was hold her / Only made us closer until July / Now I know that you love me / You don’t need to remind me / I should put it all behind me, shouldn’t I?”

Billie then confesses her feelings of guilt, adding: “But I see her in the back of my mind all the time / Like a fever, like I’m burning alive, like a sign / Did I cross the line?”

She continues with: “You say no one knows you so well / But every time you touch me, I just wonder how she felt / Valentine’s Day, cryin’ in the hotel.”

Considering the timeline of Billie and Devon’s relationships with Jesse, fans are convinced that the song reflects their experiences.

To add to the speculation, Devon has a line of phone cases called ‘Wildflower.’

The lyric “Cause she couldn’t be / More different from me / Happy and free in leather” seems to directly reference Devon’s style, as she frequently wears leather.

Are Billie Eilish and Devon Lee Carlson still friends?

As mentioned earlier, Billie and Devon are still friends.

They even spent time together at Coachella 2024, so it’s possible that Devon heard the song before its release.

After Coachella, Billie posted a photo of herself with Devon in a photo dump, captioning it: “shoutout to love and friendship man life is beautiful.”
