Convenience stores are the unsung heroes of our daily lives, always there for us in our time of need. In recent years, these stores have evolved beyond stocking just name brands to include their own private label products—from refreshing beverages to snacks—at a more wallet-friendly price point.
However, like any other food or beverage company, store-brand items are not immune to issues. Recalls can happen to both national brands and private label products, as one popular regional chain, Wawa, recently experienced.
Wawa, known for its convenient grab-and-go options, is facing a recall of several of its own 16-ounce bottled beverages. The FDA announced the voluntary recall of Wawa Iced Tea Lemon, Wawa Iced Tea Diet Lemon, Wawa Diet Lemonade, and Wawa Fruit Punch on April 3, 2026.
The recall includes various 16-ounce pint bottles of Wawa-branded beverages sold in multiple states. The affected products have specific code dates and were distributed to stores across Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. All affected products were produced by the Wawa Beverage Company.
The reason behind the recall is the potential presence of an undeclared milk allergen in the drinks. This issue stemmed from a temporary equipment malfunction during the manufacturing process, which has since been identified and rectified. While no illnesses have been reported, Wawa is prioritizing the health and safety of its customers and staff by initiating this recall.
If you have purchased any of the recalled drinks, it is recommended to dispose of them immediately. Customers can also contact Wawa’s 24-hour customer service center for further assistance or to request a refund in the form of a Wawa gift card.
In a world where convenience is key, even the most familiar products can sometimes present unexpected challenges. This incident serves as a reminder to always stay informed and vigilant when it comes to the food and beverages we consume.
