Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be attending the royal family’s Christmas gathering at Sandringham this year.
A source informed PEOPLE that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not received an invitation for this year’s festivities.
The couple, who are likely to spend the holidays in the U.S., have not celebrated Christmas with the royal family since their wedding in 2018. Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, were also absent from Trooping the Colour in June, which is King Charles’ annual birthday celebration.
This absence followed a missed opportunity for Harry to meet with his father during his visit to the U.K. for the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games, with a spokesperson citing the King’s “full schedule” amid ongoing tensions between Harry and both his father and brother, Prince William.
Harry last saw Charles in February after he dashed from California to the UK to visit his father shortly after news broke that he was diagnosed with cancer.
They reportedly had a brief meeting that lasted only about 30 minutes. The last public appearance of the brothers together was after Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022.
Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles as working members of the royal family in January 2020 and moved to Montecito, California, where they still reside.
