Top Chef Season 14: Fiery Challenges with Guest Judge Mei Lin

This week on the latest episode of Top Chef, the 14 remaining chefs were in for a fiery challenge as they had to create dishes with increasing levels of heat. To make things even spicier, season 12 winner Mei Lin joined as a guest judge.

Spoiler alert: If you haven’t watched the episode that aired on March 16, be warned that details about the elimination and challenges will be discussed below.

Chef Jassi Bindra from Houston, TX found himself eliminated after serving a braised lamb vindaloo that failed to bring the heat required for the 7th course, and with dry, overcooked lamb.

Moving forward in the competition are chefs like Sieger Bayer from Chicago, IL, Sherry Cardoso from Brooklyn, NY, and Brittany Cochran from Charlotte, NC, among others from different parts of the country.

In the Quickfire Challenge, the chefs had to create dishes based on flavors of Talenti gelato and sorbetto tied to specific countries or regions. Some stood out for their innovative choices while others landed in the bottom for failing to impress the judges.

The elimination challenge divided the chefs into two teams, both working with Carolina Reapers to create progressively spicier dishes for a seven-course meal. Despite some ups and downs, the green team emerged victorious with standout dishes from Rhoda, Jennifer, and Sieger.

Unfortunately, the red team struggled, and the bottom dishes belonged to Nana, Justin, and Jassi. In the end, Jassi’s lamb dish fell short in spice level and texture consistency, leading to his elimination.

Top Chef continues to heat up the competition on Monday nights on Bravo, with episodes running 75 minutes each.
