Sailing on the newest ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, the Norwegian Luna, was a thrilling experience for me. Having previously worked as a performer for NCL, I always look forward to seeing their latest ships in action. Despite my past work on ships, I still enjoy cruising as a way to vacation and compare different cruise lines and ships.
Over the past five years, Norwegian Cruise Line has made significant changes to its entertainment offerings, especially with the introduction of its larger ships. The cruise line has moved away from full-scale Broadway productions onboard, such as “Beetlejuice” and “Kinky Boots,” in favor of other types of entertainment.
While I believe this shift was a mistake, I did appreciate the variety of entertainment offered onboard the NCL Luna. The main stage theater featured two large production shows, “ELTON: A Celebration of Elton John” and “HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder,” both of which showcased the talents of the onboard production cast.
One standout venue onboard was Syd Norman’s Pourhouse, a themed gastropub where the cast performed tributes to artists like the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. Additionally, LunaTique Pop Circus, a smaller, ticketed show, offered a unique entertainment experience with specialty cocktails included.
“ELTON: A Celebration of Elton John” was a highlight of the onboard entertainment, offering a more focused and cohesive production compared to traditional revue shows. The choreography and set design were particularly impressive, though the addition of character elements felt somewhat disjointed.
“HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder” was a high-tech production featuring dynamic choreography and impressive visuals that kept the audience engaged throughout the performance. The dancers’ athleticism and talent were on full display in this electrifying show.
For those looking for a more adult-oriented entertainment experience, LunaTique Pop Circus provided a dramatic and sexy show featuring singers from the production cast. The intricate costumes and energetic choreography made for a memorable performance.
Overall, the entertainment offerings on the NCL Luna provided a diverse and engaging experience for guests. From tribute shows to high-energy productions, there was something for everyone to enjoy onboard this new cruise ship.
