At just 35 years old, former child star Matt Prokop made headlines once again for legal troubles relating to child pornography charges. But beyond his recent arrest, who is Matt Prokop?
Prokop rose to fame with small roles on hit shows like “Hannah Montana” and “The Office” before landing a breakout role in “High School Musical 3” in 2008. His most notable role, however, was starring alongside Sarah Hyland in the 2011 Disney Channel movie “Geek Charming,” earning him recognition among young audiences.
The actor and Hyland began a relationship during filming, leading to Prokop making a guest appearance on “Modern Family” in 2012. Despite his promising career trajectory, Prokop’s final acting role was in the 2013 film “April Apocalypse,” while Hyland continued to find success in Hollywood.
In 2014, Hyland took legal action against Prokop, filing a restraining order after their breakup, detailing incidents of verbal and physical abuse. Prokop was required to stay at least 100 yards away from Hyland and her dog, with the restraining order eventually becoming permanent.
Prokop’s legal issues did not end there. In 2024, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and resisting arrest, followed by further trouble for violating his bond in 2025. Most recently, he faced charges for possession or promotion of child pornography and is currently held in a Texas jail.
The downfall of Matt Prokop’s once-promising career serves as a cautionary tale of the dark side of fame and the consequences of unchecked behavior.
