In 1984, Kristian Alfonso entered the world of NBC’s soap opera Days Of Our Lives as Hope Williams, the daughter of Doug Williams and Addie Horton. Alfonso was the fifth actress to take on the role of Hope since the character’s inception in 1974.
Quickly winning over fans, Hope became known for her romance with Bo Brady, evolving into one of the show’s most beloved supercouples. Alfonso’s portrayal of Hope lasted until 1987 when the characters of Bo and Hope left the show with a happy ending, departing Salem with their newborn son, Shawn Douglas Brady.
Returning briefly in 1990 for a fan-favorite storyline, Alfonso reunited with Peter Reckell’s Bo Brady on the ‘Cruise of Deception.’ Things took a dramatic turn when Hope was presumed dead after a confrontation with the villain Ernesto Toscano.
Alfonso made a more substantial return in 1994 with a twist-heavy plot involving super villain Stefano DiMera. Her character was found at Stefano’s compound in New Orleans, posing as a woman named ‘Gina,’ with a series of revelations ultimately confirming her true identity as Hope Brady.
Remaining a central figure on Days of Our Lives until her full-time departure in 2020, Alfonso later reprised her role for the Peacock spinoff Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem, reuniting with Reckell once again.
In 2025, Alfonso returned for a storyline where Bo Brady battled sepsis and received a miraculous cure, while John Black was permanently written out of the series after sacrificing himself to save Bo.
Aside from her time on Days of Our Lives, Alfonso also appeared in Falcon Crest, Melrose Place, Friends, and The Chronicle Mysteries. Her work on the soap earned her multiple Soap Opera Digest awards, as well as a Daytime Emmy Award for America’s Favorite Couple shared with Peter Reckell.
Alfonso’s legacy on Days of Our Lives continues to be celebrated by fans, sparking memories of the passionate romance between Hope and Bo that captivated audiences for years.
