The Irwin Family: Social Media Influencers and Conservationists

In the world of social media influencers and celebrities, the Irwin family, including Bindi and Robert Irwin, may have amassed millions of followers, but their mom, Terri, is far from being just a supportive bystander in their online endeavors.

During a recent appearance on The Apple and The Tree podcast, Terri shared that she has an informal contract with her children that dictates they must get approval from each other before posting anything online. This mutual respect ensures that nothing is shared without the family’s collective input.

“As a family, we still bounce off each other with everything,” Terri explained. “None of us ever post on social media without running it past the other one, because sometimes there’s some dumb thing that I’ve missed.”

Despite being self-aware and labeling herself as a “boomer,” Terri relies on her children, who are in their twenties, to guide her in avoiding inadvertently posting anything inappropriate.

“As a boomer, I say everything wrong,” she admitted. “So they’ll go, ‘Oh, you can’t do that with your hands. It looks like a gang sign.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, I didn’t know that.'”

Terri’s admiration for her children’s work ethic and dedication to their family’s conservation efforts at the Australia Zoo shines through as she praised Bindi and Robert for their commitment to continuing their father’s legacy.

“They’re amazingly good kids. I just, I’m so blessed because we are very close as a family,” she reflected. “And I would have been fine if, you know, they had ended up in Europe or L.A., or wherever they wanted to be to seek their dreams. But they love working at Australia Zoo.”

Terri has raised her children as a single mother for nearly two decades following the tragic death of her husband, Steve Irwin, in 2006. Steve, known for his work as an Australian zookeeper and wildlife conservationist, passed away after being attacked by a stingray while filming an underwater documentary.

The Irwin family’s impact extends beyond their wildlife conservation efforts, as both Bindi and Robert have found success in unexpected arenas. Notably, both siblings have won Dancing With the Stars—an achievement that has sparked rumors of a potential third Irwin joining the popular show.

As Robert playfully teased the idea of his mother, Terri, competing on Dancing With the Stars, it’s clear that the Irwin family’s bond extends beyond their shared passion for wildlife conservation. And as they navigate their individual journeys, one thing remains certain: their family connection is unwavering and inspiring.
