Producer Narada Michael Walden was enlisted to bring the song to life, despite initial disagreements with the songwriters. After some negotiations, the track was reworked to suit Houston’s vocal range. Released as the third single from her debut album, “How Will I Know” shot to the top of the charts in early 1986. The accompanying music video, with its neon visuals and pastel colors, solidified Houston’s status as a rising star.
