The Evolution of Carousel of Progress

For Disney fans across generations, Carousel of Progress isn’t just a ride in Tomorrowland—it’s a nostalgic time machine. Many grandparents rode it as kids and now share the experience with their grandkids, swaying to “A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” as the theater rotates.

Recently, Walt Disney World filed a new permit related to Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom, hinting at long-awaited changes. Last year, Disney confirmed the addition of a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic to the attraction’s opening scene, a detail first revealed at the Destination D23 event in August 2025.

At that event, Disney Imagineer Chris Beatty announced that guests would soon be welcomed by Walt Disney himself before the show begins, framing the story of progress through his eyes. While the heart of the attraction remains, the introduction will be updated for a new generation.

The new permit filed by Walt Disney Imagineering references show-related systems within the attraction, but details about timelines or closures have not been announced. Despite the changes, Carousel of Progress, originally created for the 1964–65 New York World’s Fair and a fixture at Magic Kingdom since 1975, continues to reflect Walt’s optimism and hope for the future.

For fans planning multigenerational trips, the excitement lies in seeing a beloved attraction shaped by Walt Disney himself evolve in a thoughtful way. With the newly filed permit, Carousel of Progress seems poised to extend its legacy, allowing families to experience it in a slightly new way together.
