The series was initially greenlit in May 2023 while Lear was still alive, but production faced setbacks due to the Hollywood strikes. Despite these obstacles, the show eventually went into production and wrapped in August 2024. Lear, a World War II veteran, passed away in December 2023 at the age of 101.
