Steph and Ayesha Curry, power couple extraordinaire, have been spreading joy beyond the basketball court this week. The duo’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation just wrapped up their final schoolyard transformation project for the year at Emerson Elementary School in Oakland, California. The foundation took to Instagram to share the news, showcasing the stunning before-and-after of the schoolyard makeover.
Despite facing some rainy weather during the project, volunteers rallied together to bring the kid-designed outdoor spaces to life at Emerson Elementary School. The school now boasts new play structures, refreshed sports courts, a soccer pitch with new goals, nature and garden areas, colorful murals, and a charming Little Town Library. The foundation’s efforts have now positively impacted 24 schools in Oakland, bringing more joy to every student at Emerson.
Founded by the Currys in 2019, the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation has invested over $90 million into Oakland schools, focusing on children’s well-being and improving learning environments through their “Whole Child, Whole School” approach. Their initiatives have provided 25 million meals to kids and families, transformed schoolyards and gymnasiums, redesigned cafeterias, and modernized libraries in the area.
Taking their philanthropy a step further, the Currys have recently committed to providing one-on-one tutoring support to 10,000 Oakland students over the next five years, addressing the literacy gap in the community. Ayesha Curry highlighted the impact of personalized tutoring, emphasizing the confidence it instills in students, leading to significant academic progress.
The Currys’ deep connection to Oakland is evident in their unwavering commitment to giving back to their hometown, even after the Warriors relocated their home arena to San Francisco in 2019. Their latest project at Emerson Elementary is a testament to a year of meaningful impact, transforming schoolyards into safe, creative spaces for children to learn, play, and grow. The Currys’ dedication to uplifting their community showcases the lasting influence they continue to wield far beyond the basketball court.
