Sophie Turner is setting the record straight.
Just a day after the star made headlines for discussing the “struggle” of being a single mom in the Sunday Times, she took to Instagram Stories to clarify her remarks.
The 28-year-old “Game of Thrones” alum stated that she had been “widely misquoted.”
She explained, “I was talking about the character of Joan that I play and was not referring to myself, which is obvious from the original interview.
“I’m very fortunate person needs to have a lot of help around me, which is not the case for a lot of people,” Turner, who shares two daughters with Joe Jonas, continued. “I applaud all single mothers doing it alone”.
In her original quote, the actress expressed how she connected with her character in the new ITV series.
“If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it,” Turner remarked. “It’s such a struggle being a single mother.”
She also added, “Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way… but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter. It’s also really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them.”
Turner suggested that playing Joan, a character inspired by a real-life jewel thief, provided her with “a lot of strength” during her divorce from Jonas.
Jonas, 35, filed for divorce from Turner in September 2023, four years after their wedding.
Although the former couple had a “successful” mediation the following month and reached a temporary agreement, Turner later filed to “reactivate” their case in March.
“Joan changed me quite a lot,” she reflected. “From utter desperation comes so much will and ambition. The series came around at a time in my life where I had to be ambitious and I had to have such strong will and fight against the forces.”
Turner has since moved on with aristocrat Peregrine Pearson, while Jonas briefly dated model Stormi Bree after their split.
