Rachel Zegler isn’t letting the trolls get to her.
The actress clapped back at a social media critic who slammed her singing performance at a promotional event for Disney’s Snow White in Segovia, Spain, earlier this week, ahead of the film’s release next Friday.
Disney posted a clip on Instagram showcasing Zegler performing “Waiting on a Wish” in front of the iconic Alcázar de Segovia Castle in Spain, the same castle that inspired the 1937 animated classic.
The caption read, “Check out a sneak peek of Rachel Zegler performing ‘Waiting on a Wish’ in front of Alcázar de Segovia Castle in Spain, the same castle that inspired the 1937 animated film.”
While many fans were excited, one critic wrote, “NO thanks. Disney, [was it] so difficult to cast a soprano???” Zegler, who plays Snow White in the live-action film, quickly responded, “I am a soprano! West Side Story is now streaming on Disney.”
Her remark was a reference to her acclaimed performance as María in West Side Story, for which she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in 2021.
Despite the ongoing criticism under the post, Zegler appears to be brushing it off. On Thursday, she shared her excitement on Instagram about performing in Spain, where she sang in front of select influencers, fans, and photographers.
“What an amazing couple of days! From performing ‘Waiting on a Wish’ in front of Alcázar de Segovia, to reuniting with our fearless director Marc Webb, and meeting all of the loveliest little princesses and knights, I am overflowing with love (and paella),” she captioned her post, sharing photos and videos from her trip.
The upcoming Snow White live-action adaptation has been met with backlash since its announcement.
After being cast in 2021, Zegler sparked controversy by criticizing the original 1937 version of the film. “There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. Weird. So we didn’t do that this time,” Zegler told Extra in 2022.
Zegler has also faced ongoing scrutiny for her outspoken views, including criticism of former President Donald Trump and her support for Palestine.
