Sheinelle Jones: Finding Light in Times of Darkness

The Today team has had a year filled with emotions, and co-host Sheinelle Jones couldn’t hold back tears while celebrating her 48th birthday on a recent episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. On a Friday episode in April, Jenna Bush Hager surprised Jones with a bright pink cake featuring the cover of her new book, Through Mom’s Eyes: Simple Wisdom from Mothers Who Raised Extraordinary Humans. The heartfelt moment brought tears to Jones’ eyes as she reflected on the journey she has been on for the past few years following the illness and death of her husband, Uche Ojeh, who battled glioblastoma.
Jones’ husband of 17 years passed away in May 2025, leaving behind three children. Despite the heartbreaking loss, Jones shared how she found peace in the past year, emphasizing the importance of finding light in times of darkness.
In a touching moment on the show, Jones welcomed the hospice workers who cared for her late husband during his illness. She expressed gratitude to them for their support and care during a difficult time.
The loss of Uche Ojeh was announced by the Today team with deep sadness, as they paid tribute to him as an incredible person. Jones’ co-host, Savannah Guthrie, shared the news with viewers, highlighting the impact Ojeh had on those around him.
As Jones continues to navigate life after the loss of her husband, she finds inspiration in his memory and the support of her friends and colleagues. She has channeled her experiences into her work, sharing her story with others and finding strength in the love and memories she holds dear.
