Shaquille O’Neal: The Tech Playground Tycoon of Times Square

Shaquille O’Neal, the four-time NBA champion, father of six, and self-proclaimed “geek of America,” recently made headlines as a new part-owner of a tech playground in Times Square. Last Friday, on April 10, tm:rw announced O’Neal’s investment and partnership with the company, where he will also serve as a global ambassador. The three-story tech space, spanning 22,000 square feet, features over 120 brands and offers an immersive experience with Formula 1 driving simulators, advanced robotics, and AI-powered holograms. According to a press release, O’Neal will be actively involved in shaping the company’s future, focusing on global expansion, brand strategy, and live experiences.

During a sit-down interview with Bloomberg Television, the 54-year-old shared how his accidental encounter at the store led to his decision to become a partner. After spending four hours exploring the tech wonderland, O’Neal crossed paths with CEO Nathalie Bernce and expressed his interest in getting involved.

When asked about the influence of younger athletes becoming investors, O’Neal shifted the conversation to his motivation. He emphasized that his success is not solely driven by monetary gains but by his desire to provide his hard-working single mother with the life she deserves. This sentiment reflects O’Neal’s approach to his various business ventures outside of basketball.

O’Neal’s entrepreneurial endeavors have proven successful, with reported annual earnings exceeding $95 million. His diverse portfolio includes investments in Google, a stake in Ring pre-Amazon acquisition, and the establishment of his own restaurant chain, Big Chicken. In addition to his business ventures, O’Neal is an Emmy-winning analyst on ESPN’s “Inside the NBA” and recently announced the launch of DUNKMAN, the world’s first professional dunking league in partnership with TNT Sports.

Off the court, O’Neal maintains a relatively private personal life, focusing on raising his children and navigating the aftermath of his divorce from ex-wife Shaunie Henderson. Despite joking about a potential dating show, O’Neal seems content with his current commitments, like his involvement in the tech store in Times Square.

Shaquille O’Neal’s blend of athleticism, business acumen, and personal integrity continues to shape his legacy in and out of the sports world.
