Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of Today, faces a heart-wrenching ordeal as her mother, Nancy Guthrie, remains missing more than 10 weeks after being abducted from her home in Tucson, Ariz. In a recent turn of events, DNA evidence from the 84-year-old’s residence has been sent to the FBI from a lab in Florida.
News broke on Thursday, April 16, as ABC 7 reported that a Florida lab, in collaboration with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, forwarded the DNA sample to the FBI for advanced analysis within the past few days.
The FBI is utilizing cutting-edge technology to examine the sample, aiming to identify the perpetrator behind Nancy’s abduction. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has been working closely with the FBI lab since the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance commenced, sharing crucial information.
NewsNation Senior National Correspondent, Brian Entin, provided insight into the latest development regarding the DNA evidence. Entin revealed that the sample includes hairs discovered in Guthrie’s home, adding another layer to the investigation.
Previously, in February, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos mentioned that the DNA evidence found in Nancy’s home was “mixed,” containing genetic material from multiple individuals. Nanos highlighted the challenges faced by their lab and expressed optimism that advancements in technology could resolve the complexities in the case within a relatively short period.
Nancy was last seen at her residence in Catalina Foothills on the evening of January 31. Despite Savannah offering a $1 million reward for information leading to her mother’s safe return, no suspect has been named as of yet.
The ongoing efforts to seek justice for Nancy Guthrie continue, as investigators utilize every available resource to uncover the truth behind her disappearance.
