As the highly-anticipated final season of Outlander gears up for its premiere in March, leading man Sam Heughan, known for his role as Jamie Fraser, is expanding his repertoire. The latest venture? Joining Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons in the upcoming geo-political action thriller series Embassy.
Deadline was the first to break the news that Heughan will portray a British SAS soldier in the six-part series. This isn’t the actor’s first time taking on the role of a special forces operative, having previously starred as special forces operator Tom Buckingham in SAS: Red Notice (also known as SAS: Rise of the Black Swan).
Embassy follows the story of Layla (Kendrick), an American diplomat faced with a challenging decision when armed mercenaries invade the U.S. Embassy in London. Forced to rely on her instincts and her ex-fiancé, the battle-hardened Connor Wright (Heughan), Layla must navigate a tense extraction operation.
Heughan has been keeping busy post-Wrapping up Season 8 of Outlander. Recently, he showcased his acting chops in Macbeth at The Royal Shakespeare Company, while also promoting his new book The Cocktail Diaries and his line of alcoholic beverages, Sassenach Spirits, featuring the latest addition of Sassenach Fine Scottish Vodka.
Additionally, Heughan is set to embrace his Scottish roots as the Grand Marshal of the NYC Tartan Day Parade on April 11, 2026. In a statement, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to represent his homeland and nation at this meaningful event that unites the local and international Scottish community.
With Season 8 of Outlander scheduled to premiere on March 6 on STARZ, fans can look forward to seeing Heughan in action once again. As for Embassy, the show has yet to secure a broadcaster or streamer, remaining an independently-financed TV series.
In the ever-evolving world of entertainment, Sam Heughan’s versatile talents continue to captivate audiences, ensuring he remains a prominent figure in both television and film.
