Remembering Michael DeLano: A Versatile Actor’s Legacy in TV and Film

Michael DeLano, a versatile character actor with a career spanning five decades, passed away at the age of 84. Known for his roles in classic TV shows such as Firehouse and Rhoda, as well as in films like George Clooney’s Ocean’s Eleven, DeLano left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.

DeLano’s wife, Jean Delano, confirmed his passing on October 20 in a Las Vegas hospital due to a heart attack. The couple had been together for 38 years, with 28 of those years spent in marriage.

Classic TV fans will remember DeLano as Johnny Venture, the suave lounge singer from Rhoda who tried to win over the heart of the lead character, Rhoda, after her divorce. He appeared in 11 episodes of the show between 1976 and 1978.

In addition to his television work, DeLano also starred in the firefighter drama Firehouse in the mid-1970s and the adventurous series Supertrain in 1979. His versatile talent allowed him to transition between TV and film seamlessly.

Born as Michael Ace Del Fatti in Virginia in 1940, DeLano started his career as a dancer on American Bandstand before moving into music as Key Larson. He later adopted the surname DeLano, inspired by a neon sign he spotted.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, DeLano continued to work in film, appearing in various projects alongside notable stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando. His TV credits included appearances in iconic shows such as The Rockford Files, Wonder Woman, and Cagney & Lacey.

DeLano’s move to Las Vegas in 1992 solidified his presence in the entertainment scene. He continued to perform in local venues and appeared in films like Ocean’s Eleven and Ocean’s Twelve. His legacy lives on through his wife, daughter, and grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held at The Dispensary Lounge, where he entertained audiences for years. Michael DeLano’s contributions to the entertainment industry will always be remembered and cherished.
