As news of Adelia “Ada” Zeidler’s passing spread, a quiet sense of loss settled over her small town in Kentucky. The older sister of George Clooney, Ada was known for her talent as an artist and her deep roots in Augusta. Born to journalist Nick Clooney and writer Nina Bruce Warren on May 2, 1960, in Los Angeles, Ada later found her place in Kentucky, where she became a beloved member of the community.
Ada’s obituary, published on Legacy.com by Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, revealed that she passed away peacefully on a Friday, Dec. 19, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood, surrounded by loved ones. Throughout her life, Ada battled cancer with courage and humor, leaving behind a legacy of resilience.
Despite preferring to stay out of the public eye, Ada made appearances at important family events, including her brother George’s wedding to Amal Alamuddin Clooney in Venice in 2014. However, her true passion lay in teaching art to elementary school students at Augusta Independent School, where she inspired young minds with her creativity.
Ada was not just an artist; she was a National Merit Scholar in high school, an avid reader in a local book club, a member of the Augusta Art Guild, and a past grand marshal of Augusta’s Annual White Christmas Parade. After studying in Louisville and Northern Kentucky, she pursued a career as a bookkeeper, demonstrating her diverse talents and interests throughout her life.
Ada married Norman Zeidler, a retired Army captain, in a heartfelt ceremony in Augusta on March 14, 1987. Their union was a momentous occasion for their family and the community, with Ada’s brother George reading scripture and her aunt Rosemary Clooney serenading the couple with a romantic song. Tragically, Norman passed away in 2004 after suffering a heart attack, leaving Ada to navigate life’s challenges with grace and strength.
In her passing, Ada leaves behind her children, Nick Zeidler and Allison Zeidler Herolaga, as well as her husband Kenny, her parents, her brother George and his wife Amal, and an extended family who will miss her dearly. A funeral mass honoring Ada’s life will be held on Monday, Dec. 22, in Maysville, Kentucky, where friends and loved ones will gather to pay their respects to a woman whose quiet courage and artistic spirit touched many lives.
Ada Zeidler’s legacy transcends the boundaries of fame, capturing the essence of a life lived with grace and purpose. In her art, in her community, in her family, Ada’s presence will be dearly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
