As you rummage through your fridge or freezer after picking up a fresh batch of ground beef, a recent public health alert from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service may have you taking a closer look at your purchases. Specifically, the alert was issued for a specific White Oak Pastures ground beef product that may be contaminated with metal, posing a potential health risk if consumed.
This ground beef product, labeled “White Oak Pastures, Radically Traditional Farming, Grassfed Ground Beef,” was produced on February 26, 2026. While it is no longer available for purchase, it has not been officially recalled, leaving the possibility that some packages may still be in consumers’ homes. Identified by the establishment number “EST 34729” and a sell-by date of March 19, 2026, this product was distributed to retailers, including Mom’s Organic Markets, in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
The alert was prompted by two customer complaints received by the company before any confirmed injuries were reported. Consumers are being advised not to consume the ground beef and to either throw it away or return it to the store. This incident echoes a similar situation in December 2025 when the FSIS recalled over 2,800 pounds of grass-fed ground beef due to potential contamination with E. coli O26.
As we navigate the possibilities in our fridges and pantries, staying informed and cautious is key in ensuring our health and safety. This recent alert serves as a reminder to pay attention to the products we bring into our homes, further highlighting the importance of food safety regulations and consumer awareness.
