A mother-of-five, Alice Webb has died from a Brazilian Bum Lift procedure (BBL) in the United Kingdom.
The 34-year-old passed away at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital following the surgery.
Daily Mail reported that two individuals, including one of the operating surgeons, have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
The deceased worked as an advanced aesthetic practitioner at Crystal Clear in Wotton-under-Edge, as per Daily Mail’s coverage.
Save Face, a national register of accredited practitioners for non-surgical cosmetic treatments, stated this incident was the “first case of a death caused by BBL in the UK.”
Dane Knight, Webb’s partner, urged people to consider her daughters before making assumptions.
The major crime team of Gloucestershire Police is conducting an investigation, with the two arrested individuals now out on bail.
What is a BBL?
BBL is a procedure done to enhance the buttocks by making them larger, more rounded, or lifted, can be performed as either a surgical or non-surgical option.
Surgical BBLs involve the insertion of silicone-filled implants and/or the transfer of fat from other body areas into the buttocks.
On the other hand, non-surgical BBLs, like the one Webb reportedly underwent, involves injecting dermal fillers into the buttocks, often containing hyaluronic acid commonly used in facial procedures like lip and cheek fillers.
While non-surgical BBLs are legal in the UK, Wolverhampton City Council took action last year to prevent a company from conducting the procedure due to identified risks such as blood clots, sepsis, and potential tissue death.
