Oprah Winfrey faced social media backlash after claiming that “thin people” simply have more willpower, stemming from her experience with a weight-loss drug.
During a conversation on “The Oprah Podcast” with Dr. Ania Jastreboff, she reflected, “I used to think that thin people just ate better and had more discipline. They never touched a potato chip.”
Following the release of a clip from the podcast on Instagram, many users expressed their disapproval.
One commenter noted, “Thin people also think about food all the time, but they manage their needs healthily, not through medication.” Another added, “I think about it constantly but just don’t eat it.”
Winfrey confirmed her use of a weight-loss drug in December 2023 after struggling with yo-yo dieting for years.
She described the availability of a medically approved weight management prescription as a relief and a gift, stating, “It’s not something to hide behind or be ridiculed for.”
Subsequently, she stepped down from her role on the WeightWatchers board.
