My Chemical Romance Rocks Welcome to Rockville: The Black Parade 20th Anniversary Celebration

The night before the final day of Welcome to Rockville was nothing short of a time machine back to 2006 for elder emos as My Chemical Romance took the stage. The band celebrated the 20th anniversary of their iconic album, The Black Parade, by performing it in its entirety, including a rarely played hidden track.

As the group finished playing “The End,” the transition into “Blood,” the hidden track following “Famous Last Words,” showcased their theatrical and dark-comedy style. A black-and-white clown character appeared on stage, delivering a memorable performance that included a striptease while fake blood and all. As the clown pretends to “kill” the band members, a massive onstage explosion effect concluded the chaotic sequence.

The encore included fan favorites like “I’m Not Okay (I Promise),” “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na),” “Boy Division,” and a crowd-roaring finale of “Helena.” Fans hailed this as the greatest show in Rockville history, appreciating MCR as the final headliner and noting it as a genius move.

Originally released in 2006, The Black Parade became an iconic album of the 2000s alt-rock scene. Songs like “Teenagers” and “Mama” were ubiquitous on MySpace profiles, while the album’s military-style outfits and marching band aesthetic became staples for emo kids.

This appearance at Rockville is part of a series of festival and stadium performances for MCR this year. The band emerged from retirement in 2019, with a one-off show in Los Angeles leading to a reunion tour that had to be rescheduled to 2022 due to the pandemic. The band has been active ever since, starting their The Black Parade 2026 World Tour in January to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Despite weather disruptions throughout the festival, Rockville’s 15th year featured performances by legendary bands like Ice Nine Kills, Turnstile, and Simple Plan, with headliners such as Guns N’ Roses, Foo Fighters, and Bring Me The Horizon.

The weekend at Welcome to Rockville was filled with excitement, passion, and unforgettable performances that showcased the timeless influence of My Chemical Romance and their enduring legacy in the rock music scene.
