Snippets of a wedding which made rounds on the internet have sparked a heated debate on the appropriate dress for “a mother of the bride”.

Wedding content creator Chloe LeBlanc (@capturedbychloe.co) captioned the clip: “The ultimate MOB dress going mega viral on TikTok rn. We love to see it!!”
The 53-year-old Lori Dewitt came under fire after she was spotted wearing a stunning floral dress which social media users felt detracted attention from her daughter – the bride.
Meanwhile, her daughter who was tying the knot had opted for a comparatively more tame white off-the-shoulder outfit.
”’Why does the MOB want to be the center of attention???” one baffled viewer wrote.
Another agreed, writing: ”Why upstage your daughter???? Shocking.”
“Wow. Couldn’t she let her daughter be the bigger deal that day?!!! If my mother did that I’d send her back to change,” one candidly responded.
However, others defended the mother, with one saying she looked “absolutely radiant,” adding: “I would be so honored to document a mother and daughter who celebrate each other’s dress choices. Leave the ego at home. Some of these comments are such a shame to read.” slamming critics of the dress.
Another stated: ”Stunning! I want my mum to shine like this on my wedding day”.
Meanwhile a third wrote, “There’s no way ANYONE can outshine a bride. She’s the bride. The mum of the bride deserves to look fabulous as well”.
Following the severe backlash, the mum defended her decision, she said, ”I would never do anything to hurt my daughter.
“Everybody just wanted to look their best.
“We didn’t realise my dress was going to spark a debate, but we’re laughing about it”.
