Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s wife, never had the chance to meet his mother, Princess Diana, who passed away when Harry was young.
However, Prince Harry has often spoken about how Meghan shares many of the same wonderful qualities as his late mother.
In a recent podcast interview, Meghan, 43, was asked about Prince Harry’s public statements comparing her to Princess Diana.
The podcast host, Jamie Kern Lima, quoted Harry as saying Meghan has the same compassion, empathy, confidence, and warmth as his mum.
Meghan responded to this by saying, “It’s beautiful. I wish I could have met her.”
Prince Harry was just 12 years old when Princess Diana tragically died in a car accident. Despite never meeting, Meghan and Harry have kept Diana’s memory alive in their lives.
Meghan’s engagement ring features diamonds that once belonged to Diana, and they even have a photo of her in their son Archie’s bedroom.
Prince Harry also revealed in his book, “Spare,” that he and Meghan first connected on Princess Diana’s birthday.
After seeing Meghan on a friend’s Instagram, Harry asked for her contact information on July 1, 2016. He described their first conversations as “texting like a teenager” late into the night and was struck by the fact that their connection began on his mother’s birthday.
In 2022, Meghan and Harry visited Princess Diana’s burial site together for the first time.
Harry described it as a difficult but important visit, especially as it was the 25th anniversary of his mother’s death and Meghan’s first time there.
He shared that they both took a moment to connect with Diana’s memory at her gravesite.
