Madonna Goes Brunette for the First Time in Decades — Here’s why

Madonna has debuted a striking new look, trading her signature blonde hair for brunette locks in a touching tribute to her late mother, Madonna Louise, who passed away from breast cancer in 1963.

On Sunday, the “Material Girl” singer, 66, shared a selfie on her Instagram Story with the caption, “I missed my Mother so I channeled her……….”

The new hairstyle, likely a wig, featured voluminous, bouncy curls reminiscent of a 1960s style, paired with shimmery eyeshadow and coral lipstick.

This is a rare color change for Madonna, who has been predominantly blonde for decades. Her last notable brunette appearance was in 2013 at the Met Gala. Before that, she sported dark brown hair in the early 2000s.

Madonna was only five years old when her mother died, an event she has spoken about as profoundly impactful.

In the 2023 Sky documentary “Becoming Madonna,” she reflected, “What happened, you know, when I was [5] years old, it was just the greatest event of my life… It was like a part of my heart was ripped out.”

She added that she was “forced to grow up fast” and grapple with complex emotions at a very young age.

This personal homage comes just after Madonna celebrated Mother’s Day with five of her six children, including her eldest, Lourdes Leon, 28.

She shared a family photo from the weekend, captioning it, “The best gift they gave me was the gift of not arguing and being loving to one another. When you raise children to be unique and opinionated, you also create your own debate team !!!”
