Life’s Still Unfair

The revival of “Malcolm in the Middle” titled “Life’s Still Unfair” brought back a wave of nostalgia for fans of the classic show. Among the familiar faces of Frankie Muniz, Jane Kaczmarek, and Bryan Cranston, one unexpected name made an appearance – Finn Wolfhard.

In the finale of the four-episode season, the “Stranger Things” star pops up as the party planner for Hal and Lois’s anniversary celebration. However, it seems he ends up more as an ancillary character, with AV controls in hand, subject to Lois’s controlling nature.

The inclusion of Wolfhard in the revival seems somewhat random, considering he is not part of the original “Malcolm in the Middle” cast. In an interview with creator Linwood Boomer, he shared how Wolfhard’s cameo came to be. Wolfhard’s agent reached out expressing his love for the show, leading to the small yet significant role.

Tracy Katsky Boomer, Linwood’s wife and EP of “Life’s Still Unfair,” praised Wolfhard, calling him an “absolute doll” on set. She highlighted his charm and comedic talent, particularly in scenes with Jane Kaczmarek.

During promotions for the revival, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek both expressed their appreciation for Wolfhard’s acting skills. Cranston noted that Wolfhard is a good actor on a great show, making his cameo fitting for the storyline.

“Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” follows the adult Malcolm as he navigates family dynamics with his own daughter. Whether there are plans for future episodes beyond the four released on Hulu remains uncertain. Perhaps more celebrity cameos like Wolfhard’s could make appearances, adding an element of surprise for viewers.

In the ever-evolving landscape of television revivals, “Life’s Still Unfair” offers a fresh take on a beloved family sitcom, bringing back the essence of the Wilkerson family in a new light.

As the revival continues to captivate audiences with its mix of old and new faces, it leaves fans eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for the Wilkerson family.
