Legendary Hollywood Director Bruce Bilson Passes Away at 97

At 97, Hollywood director Bruce Bilson, known for his work on classic 1960s TV series like “Get Smart” and “The Andy Griffith Show,” has passed away at his Los Angeles home. His daughter, Julie Bilson Ahlberg, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter on a Friday in January.

Bilson was part of a multi-generational Hollywood family, including his daughter Julie, producer of “The Fog of War,” granddaughter Rachel Bilson of “The O.C.” and “Hart of Dixie” fame, and son Danny Bilson, known for screenwriting “The Rocketeer” and “Da Five Bloods.”

After graduating from UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television in 1950, Bilson achieved success in the industry, even winning an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for his work on “Get Smart.” His impressive resume also includes directing shows like “Gidget” and “Hogan’s Heroes” in collaboration with Desilu Productions.

Throughout his career, Bilson worked on a variety of beloved shows such as “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Love Boat,” “Wonder Woman,” and “The Odd Couple.” His impact on the entertainment industry was truly remarkable.
